No tutor can support all subjects. We have several tutors who support our wide variety of subjects:
GCSE Level:Science, Chemistry, Physics and Biology, Double Science
We offer a range of support covering from OCR21st Century Science to AQA Double and Triple Science. Some schools cover the topics individually others cover them together in one big all reaching subject. Our staff teach both the pure sciences and the combined science giving you the benefit of both skills. We believe in letting our students engage in and learn from practical work. When we go out to your home we take the necessary equipment to allow the students to take part in a science experiment that they can design and perform using state of the art equipment. At my home (I teach the Science) I have a wide range of science equipment and resources which can be used to allow your son or daughter to learn not just from books but to learn by doing the experiments themselves. This leads to a better understanding of what happens. Nowadays it seems that less and less science practical is done in schools and this leads to a poorer understanding of the concepts. We offer more traditional methods of science teaching that allows students to make guided discoveries that they can more easily remember and this gives rise to more confidence in the subject. Girls in mixed schools often take the back seat in discovery. With home tuition this all changes allowing them to achieve their full potential.
We teach science from all ages gives a good basic grounding in science from year 3 onwards. The older students study the separate traditional sciences to prepare them for A level study. We have a variety of scientific equipment ranging from ripple tanks to simple electrical circuit kits, We use binocular compound microscopes and the centrifuge. We use data loggers to record and manage the data collected.
Here are some Books that you might find useful..
ICT or Computing Sometimes covered as a GCSE - more usually a disguised BTEC Level 1/2 course giving the option for multiple GCSE equivalent qualifications. Many years of teaching and working in this field can bring some of the best knowledge of the subject to the student.
English Language An absolute necessity to gain a C grade or higher. Many younger teachers were not taught all the facts of English when they were at school and so cannot pass on what they didn't learn. All our staff went through a more traditional education route and received a thorough grounding in all aspects of English Language. These skills are passed on to the student to give them a thorough grounding in the use of English.
Maths An absolute necessity to gain a C grade or higher. This is a core GCSE Course. Our staff have taught most of the current syllabuses including Edexcel and AQA,at Foundation and Higher Level. We start with students from as young as year 3, building up a firm and solid foundation on which to develop the later skills. We see our students develop and improve to become beacons of achievement in their schools.
Many schools have to follow strict timetables of development which means that valuable skills are lost or forgotten. We have the time to concentrate on individuals weaknesses to turn these around into strengths.
At A level - List of Books & Revision Guides
We cover the OCR, AQA and Edexcel Syllabuses. Much of the A level syllabuses require practical work to help the students gain a firm understanding of the chemical concepts. As well as supporting the chemistry theory we encourage our students to undertake practical work with us to enhance their learning. We have a variety of chemistry equipment to undertake chemical assays. We create our own indicators and other chemicals.
Edexcel (Salters Nuffield) and Traditional OCR and AQA. We are familiar with the different types of Biology courses, the Salters Nuffield type that are heavily based on biological investigation with the students having to learn the biological systems for themselves and the more traditional courses like OCR and AQA that each the students about the biological systems but less about biological investigations. We teach and support both of these teaching formats, supplementing some of the theory and for other students more practically based support. Using stereo low power microscopes and high power compound microscopes we look at a variety of living organisms and parts. We look at some of the Biochemical reactions in the body and use standard tests to identify products. Equipment and activities, we use includes using a Centrifuge, a Binocular Compound and Stereo Low Power Microscopes, microscope slide staining, Testing using Benedict's, Fehlings and Biuret Tests.
We support the Edexcel, AQA and OCR Syllabuses.
"Tell me and I'll forget. Teach me and I'll remember. Involve me and I'll learn."
This is our teaching philosophy and it works well with all the A levels including Physics. Much of Physics can be dry and boring. We use some Lego Mindstorms™ to create some complex Physics equipment as well as using specialist equipment to enhance the students learning and understanding. Equipment we use includes Oscilloscopes,
Edexcel and AQA C1 C2 C3 C4 M1 M2 S1 S2 D1 FP1 FP2
We offer a hands on approach to A level Maths. We work from the core books but also use other resources to enable the students to become confident with using Mathematics. We integrate the M1 with Physics to give a better idea of the some of the basic concepts.
Business Studies OCR and AQA
ICT Level 3 Some of our staff have taught these subjects for over twenty years. Refining and changing the courses and their skills as the technology has changed. The Level 3 is a wide subject equivalent to 3 A levels.
